Fall Prevention at home
Why it matters:
Falls are the leading cause of injury and death for adults 65 and older, due to sustained fractures, head injuries, fear of walking, and fast decline in health. CDC data shows nearly 3 million emergency department visits for older adults in 2021 alone. The National Safety Council also reports more than 1 in 4 older adults experiences a fall each year.
Key risks for falls:
Weakness, poor balance and mobility, foot pain and neuropathy, improper
transfers.Medication side effects, vision changes, and unsafe footwear.
Loose rugs, slippery floors, cords, clutter, poor lighting, bathroom hazards.
